RAILWAYMEN'S PROTEST
(BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ' CHEISTCHTIRCH, 11th October. A meeting of railwayriien at Lyttelton strongly protested against the recent rise in butter and other commodities, and requested all other organisations, as well as the general public. to endorse the proposal to declare butter consigned for export "black" until it has been reduced to its original price, or a proportional increase in wages is "granted to wageearners. The meeting also urged the Executive Councils of the three railway societies to press for an increase in wages to meet the increased cost of living.
