FALL IN SALES
In some places butter of last season's make can still be obtained at Is 9d per pound; but for new season's make 2s lOd is the price. Grocers in the WeJlington district- last week received intimation from a leading wholesale butter firm as follows:—"We have pleasure in advising that new season's butter wtfl be available from Thursday, 7th October.Under Government control the price is fixed at,2s Bd, subject to the usual cartage and discount conditions, as hitherto." The. firm in question informed The Post that the above advice was sent out inadvortenUy. The retail price of new season's butter in Auckland is 2s lid cash to 3s booked. Sales are reported to show a heavy falling off in the northern city and in Wellington on the new prices. The current prices rule pend--ing Government fixation.
The report of the Butter Prices Committee wili not be presented t« the House of Representatives until to-mor-row afternoon.
