LOWER HUTT COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. P lushworth,) presiding. The Mayor apologised for the absence of Mr Nicholson; Town Clerk, through illness. . The General Manager of Railways wrote giving permission to the council to beautify the surroundings of Hutt Station. A committee consisting of tho Mayor, Councillor Hardy, and the Engineer was set up to draw up a plan for planting. . The Town Clerk, Wellington, wrote advising that the City Council had decided' that it would bo better for the question of contribution towards the maintenance of roads in the southern portion of the borough and.Wainui Hill to stand over until -the amount of traffic and damage caused may b« ascertained. It was decided to support this recommendation of the Dunedin City Council for the oreation of a Government Loans Board, to arrange for the flotation of all loans required by local authorities. H. M. Hayward wrote in reference to drainage of Waiwetu, and asking for ai definite statement whether the council accepts responsibility with regard to drainage matters on the eastern aide of the Waiwetu Ri-yer within, the borough boundaries. The Mayor said th© council did not refute its responsibility, but at .the present time the council could not see its way to carry out the work.
It was decidfed to hold a special meeting next Monday to meet Mr. Climie to' discuss the ftlectric lighting scheme. •
