ROWING
1920-1921 SEASON.
Thoro was fair weather with gond water, though a littlo rain fell lato in the afternoon, for Hie opening of thp Wollingcon rowing season on Saturday afternoon, when, after a brief speech-had boen made by the President of the Star BoatingClub,, Sir Francis Bell, half a dozen interclub races were contested, and the visitors entertained at afternoon tea in one or other of tho clubhouses. Tho President spoke of rowing as a sport, as a necessary accomplishment, and as disciplinary atlilotics -par excellence, for but one stroke could be rowed at a time, and but one man could set the stroke. The littlo, cornei- of, the harbour which rowers held so long was well worth fighting for, and holding. Tho races resulted in some good finishes, .and, considering the-slight chop on the water and tho lack of training, very good times were put up. Tho results were: — Senior Fours: Petono Club. W. Hume (stroke), Maddock (3), White (2), Burridge (bow). Junior Double Sculls: Star Boating Club (W. Marris and J. Pringle)., Veterans' Fours. Petone Club (W; Hume stroke, A. White, 0. Haddock, W. Shearon bow). ' '. ' Senior Double Sculls :< Wellington Rowing Club (H. M'Kinley and G. Wilson). Youths.' Fours: Star crew (E. Dietil stroke, Oborn 3, Nelson 2, Robb bow).
