KISO MARU PUTS IN FOR REPAIRS

The Japanese steamer Kiso Maru, "bound from Lyttelton to Newcastle, put into Wellington unexpectedly this moming on account of engine trouble. The Kiso Maru left Lyttelton on Thursday night, and it was found yesterday that the feed-pump had become unworkable. Captain Yamaguchi accordingly decided to make Wellington for repairs, which will be carried out in the stream: The feed-pump is used to force warm water into a vessel's boilers, and is thus rather an important part of a ship's machinery. The Kiso Maru is a vessel of 4065 tons, and is one of the many Japanese vessels that have visited New Zealand waters lately.
