PROFITEERING LAW
THE NEW SOUTH WALES BILL.
SYDNEY, Bth October. In the Legislative Assembly, the At-torney-General (Mr. E. A. M'Tiernan), in explaining the Profiteering Prevention Bill, said it provided a new independent tribunal, the Profiteering Prevention Court, free from political control. Referring to the Chamber of Ccftnmerce, hs said that wealth extremists and gilded Bolshevists were goading the country into revolution. Despite all the added costs, Merchants were making more profit than ever. Owing to the watering of stock amd . reconstruction, many firms were making hundreds and thousands per cent, on the actual capital employed. Tha rich were growing richer, and the poor poorer. The Bill gave wide powers against cornering and forestalling. The Minister mentioned that amongst the necessary services included in the measure was the burial of the dead. This was added, because he was informed the undertakers were making extravagant charges.
