SUGAR SUPPLIES
GOOD RAW MATERIAL.
Speaking on the sugar question to-day the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. E. P. Lee') said he did 1 not anticipate being able to supply consumers with any considerable quantity of refined sugar for a month or six weeks. There ware however, good supplies of raw sugar of good quality in Auckland, and this would enable a selection to be made, and the distributing of the best grades of raw sugar until full supplies of the refined article were available. The shipping difficulties with reference to raw sugar were being got over. Mr. Lee added that there were certain^ manufacturers who couJd only carry on with refined sugar. The stoppage of these businesses would throw out of employment a large number of people, and, therefore, he intended to supply them with refined sugar, and to ask the general public to use unrefined sugar for the time being.
