MEETING OF COUNCIL

A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was held in Wellington this week. In the unavoidable absence of the President (Mr. W. E ' Best, of Christchurch), the vice-president, Mr. Walter Green (Dunedin), presided. There were also in atendance Messrs. S. G. Chambers and G. W. Hutchison (Auckland), Hugh Baily (Taranaki), R. Davis (Palmerston North), C. M. Bowden E. R Dymock.iH. A. Gold, and E. W. Hunt (Wellington). James Morrison (Christchurch). E. J. Harvey (Blenheim). W. G. Irwin (Timaru), Peter- Barr and James Brown (Dunedin), and F. A, Webb (Invercargill). A number of matters dealing -with the classification of members were dealt with. A discussion took'place on the question of the society's benevolent fund, and it was ultimately decided . that the present system of contribution is inequitable, and the executive committee was instructed to tnkfi steps to convene a general meeting of the membors, with a view to re-arrang-ing the annual subscriptions, and allocating a certain portion to the credit the 'benevolent fund. • With regard to the concessions granted to returned soldiers in connection with examinations, it was decided that all alpplications for exemption must be lodged before 31st March, 1921. It was resolved to recommend to the University of New Zealand that the new conditions governing the Maroh supplementary examination be brought into operation at the examination to.be held iri March next These conditions make the March examination available only for those candidates who sat for all subjects to complete the final at the preceding November examination. Candidates are required to sit only in the subjects in which they failed in the November examinations, except in the case where a candidate has presented himself in only two subjects and failed in one of them: ho will then be required to present himself in March in both subjects.
