MURDER OF MR. EYRE
NO CLUES FOUND
SHOT AT CLOSE QUARTERS.
UT TELKOBAPIi.—I'HESR ASSOCIATION.) ,-, AUCKLAND, This Day. . The home of Mr. Sydney/ Eyre, who was shot.dead at his home,' is in cultivated paddocks, which were recently ploughed. There is no sign of a footprint on this or on the space between it and the window from which the shot was fired. There was outside of the window a small truck on wheels^ standing -on which a man of medium height could rest a gun barrel on the window ledge. The evidence points that 1 tho ehot was fired ait close quarters, probably from a double-barrelled shot guv. There were one or two guns in the house, but these showed no evidence of having been recently discharged. The murderer evidently took away with him the weapon, with which the crime was committed. There are no further developments. Mr. Eyre was a. sheepfarmer and contractor, and before the war was a member o£ the B-aglan County Council. About three and a-half years ago illhealth sent him on a trip to California, and while there he enlisted in a Canadian Highland Regiment, returning from war service about twelve months ago. Deceased was about 48 years of age. The house at which the tragedy occurred is situated about a mile and three-quarters from the Pukekawa Post Office, and stands some distance from ; the main xoatl.
