The Acting-Consul-General for gives through the press an indignant official denial of the rumours that Japan is fortifying islands in the Pacific'south of the Equator. He says the rumour is ridiculous, and he suggests that it represents the- manufacture of groundless prejudices against Japan for the purpose of making trouble between and Britain or Japan and Australia by interested parties.
