ENGLISHMAN ARRESTED
ALLEGED KOREAN INTRIGUES.
\ — , (REUIER'S lELEGRA3I.I ■.> PEKIN, 11th August. 'Much indignation has been, caused in Shanghai through the arrest by the Japanese of Mr. George Shaw, agent for Butterfield /and Swire's steamers. He was a leading British- merchant at Antung, Mr. Shaw entered Korea to meet his family, who were returning from Japan, and was arrested on 15th July and kept in a dirty cell till he was forwarded to Seoul (capital of Korea) for trial. The police statement asserts that S,haw's house was the headquarters for Korean intrigues, that he assisted Korean revolutionaries to escape," and' that his steamers were used to carry arms and bombs to Korea, from Shanghai.
