A meeting of representatives of-, the retail trades was 'held in. Wellington this" morning to discuss the provisions of the Shop 3 and Offices Amendment Act now before the House as a private Bill, in. the name of Mr. M'Combs. It'was decided that the strongest opposition be given to the clause providing for closing of shops ai noon on the- half-holiday. The. proposal to observe Easter Saturday as a holiday was not agreed to. A resolution was aJso carried to. the effect that cny amendments to the Shops and Offices Act be made by Government measures. It was also decided to urge that tha closing hours in the Act be made to apply to all shops, without exemption*
