LECTURES IN JOURNALISM
(BI TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 26th July.
Lectures in practical journalism under Mr. A. G. Henderson have been commenced this term at Canterbury College, in accordance with the condition attached to the scholarship fund of £3000, given by Mr. Robert Bell, with a view, ultimately, to the establishment of a university school of journalism at Canterbury College. Although the lectures have been started in the second term when college students;have mapped their course out for the full year, the popularity of the subject is demonstrated by the fact that the lectures have drawn an attendance of twenty students. A number of them are cadets and juniors in the local newspaper offices, who have been quick to take advantage of the opportunity presented. ■ It is, perhaps, a sign of tile times that included among the students are one or two advertisement writers, or men hoping to qualify as advertisement writers, who have recognised the value of a course- in journalism, as an aid in their own profession.
