DAVIS CUP COURT
T.he work of constructing the court at the Domain cricket ground? for the Davis Cup qontests, whioh are to be held in Auckland in December, was commenoed during last week (states the Herald), and good progress is being made. It is now too late to sow grass and have the court ready by the end of the year, so the'turf is being removed in sections from an area 120 feet by 150 feet; and after the sub-soil has been prepared the turf is being re-laid along the outer edges. The aotual playing ground will be in the centre, and the turf for it is to be obtained from a lawn at New Lynn, the owner having donated it for this purpose. The work of returfing, according to Mr. G. Scarborough, ■who is laying out the court, will take about two, months. The court will receive two or three top-dressings before the match and should be in splendid order by December. The stands will be erected all round the area, but this work is not likely to be commenced for, some time yet.
