OLYMPIC TEAM
LEAVES WELLINGTON NEXT WEEK.
It is announced that the New Zealand representatives to compete at. the Olympic Games will leave Wellington by the Manuka on Friday next for Sydney, to connect with the Euripides,' sailing from the New South "Wales port for England about 12th June. Final efforts are now being madeby the New Zealand Olympic Council to obtain tho small balance of money required to cover the expense of sending the team. As no difficulty is expected in securing this, the four representatives originally selected will make the trip. The team is as follows :— D. HidSeld, Auckland (rowing);' G. Davidson, Auckland (running); H. E. Wilson, Wellington (hurdling); and Miss Walrond, Auckland (swimming). Mr. Walrond will accompany the team as honorary trainer, and Mr. Wilson will act. as manager.
The Auckland members will arrive in Wellington on Tuesday next, and, together with the local representative, will be given a civic farewell in the Town Hall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. In the evening the team will, be entertained at Dustin's by the Athletic, Bowing and Swimming Associations. It is expected that the athletes, will have about three week's training prior to competing at Antwerp, and the other representatives will have about one month for final preparation. Mr. A.'Marryatt, chairman of the Olympic Council, stated to-day that an order for a special boat for Hadfield was being cabled to a well-known builder on the Thames.
