HOUSING PROBLEM
THE NORTHLAND ENTERPRISE. It was a recommendation to the City Council by the Public Health Committee kat evening that the seven houses at Northland at present under construction bo sold by auction as completed, and that a reserve in such sum as the City Valuer considers necessary be placed on the properties; the purchaser in each case to be required to make a declaration that he intended to use the premises as a residence for himself and family, and that neither he nor bis wife had any interest in any other residential property. In the course of a brief discussion, Councillor R. A. Wright said that the cost of the first seven houses would be greater than that hi those subsequently erected, as they had to bear expenses incidental to the initiation of the scheme. This question would be further dealt with at the nest meeting of the council. The Mayor said ho was not favourable to renting the houses, but they should be sold upon such terms as would result to the best interests of the city, having regard to the rights of the people .buying them.
