(BI TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL TO THE POST.) PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. Twelve cases of influenza in Palmerston North were notified to the local Health Officer on Thursday. There are also a good many cases in the country districts, but nearly all are of a mild type. The Palmerstori North Borough Council's estimates for the year ending 31st March, 1921, provide for an expenditure of £35,922 17s (including a debit balance of £13,825 from last year). The revenue is estimated at £26,330 11s, and it is anticipated that there will be a debit balance of £9592 at the end of the year. Dr. Valintine (Inspector-General of Hospitals) yesterday visited a' private dwelling that it had been proposed should beacquired as a maternity hospital. The Inspector-General decided that the building was not suitable for the purpose suggested, and stated that it was not the policy of the Oovernmont to buy places already erected. Sergeant-Major J. 6. O'Brien, who returned to Palmerston North yesterday, had been away on. active service for about five years, fraying enlisted at the j age of 17£ years. His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) delivered his reserved judgment, in the Supreme Court this afternoon in the case in which, the Oroua County Council claimed from C. L. Thompson and P. Craven £200 for the cost of repairs to a road necessitated by the carting. of timber, judgment being for plaintiif for the amount claimed, with costs. Judgment was also given in xhe case in which George Henry Gillam, jun., claimed £200 from Jack Gibbs for damages sustained by being knocked down by defendant's motor-car in Highstreet, foannevirke, judgment being for i plaintiff for the amount of the claim and costs.
