PLANS.

"■■ Extensive arrangements are being made to entertain the crew of H.M.S. Renown during the vessel's stay In Wellington. These were further discussed at a meeting of the Entertainment Committee held on Saturday. Mrs. Hosking, as L one of the conveners, presided, and an apology was made for the absence of Mrs. Luke.

The pla-ns made by the Commercial Travellers' Club for the entertainment of the men during their first evening in .Wellington were outlined. The club would take complete control, providing all the necessary furniture, refreshments, and decorations, besides being responsible for the programme. The offer was accepted'with enthusiasm. /,•...

■ The British Foreign Sailors' Society offered to'entertain the men on the first . Saturday night that the Renown was in port, provided the committee guaranteed the necessary funds. The proposal was endorsed.

Colonel A. Roberts reported that the Town Hall would be available while the Renown was in port, with the exception of sth a-nd 6th May. It was decided to arrange a olub on similar lines to that provided while H.M.S. New Zealand was in port. Dances will be held as often as possible in the hope that the men would be kept together. Mesdames Luke and Darling w o ere appointed to attend to the catering, and the arrangement of the musio was left with Mrs. Bade.

A proposal to arrange for excursions into the. country was well received,, and Colonel Roberts volunteered to interview the General Manager of Railways (Mr. R. W.'M'Villy).' "

Mr. Robert Darroch, who stated that he had been given leave of absence by. the Education Board during the vessel's stay in port, was appointed secretary of ■.the committee,' and was instructed to arrange iqp his own assistant.

Owing to the illness of her husband, Mrs. Hosking resigned from the position of convener, and Colonel Roberts was appointed in her stead.

It was decided to ask Mr. A. B'larryatt to convene a meeting for the purpose of forming a sports sub-committee.
