MASTERTON, 15th April. ' At the annual meeting of the Masterton Methodist Ladies' Guild, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year :—President, Mrs. Cocker; vicepresidents, Mrs. H. Beale and Mrs. 0. Pragnell; secretary, Mrs. B. Iveson; treasurer, Mrs. D. Donald : organist, Mrs. Maud Elliott.
Six cases of scarlet fever are at present under treatment at the Masterton Hospital.
A speaker at a meeting of the Masterton brajich of the Farmers' Union on Wednesday stated that two young men on a farm of 180 acres had recently trapped-over 2000 rabbits in a fortnight Mr. Hugh Morrison stated at a meeting > of the Masterton branch of the Farmers' Union that the average cost of fencing now ran into about £250 per mile The points scored by the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company's exhibit of export butter, which secured first prize at the Sydney Eoyal Show, were as follow :—Flavour, 60; texture and moi< ■ ture, 20; salting, 5; colour, 5: finish, s~total, 95. • A proposal made at a meeting of the Masterton branch of the Farmers Union, that the powers of inspectors under the Rabbit Act should be modified, was rejected.. ,
There was a keen, demand' for all classes of sheep at- the Masterton stock sale on Wednesday, and bidding was very animated.
The Masterton branch of the Farmers' Union has resolved to ask the Agricultural Department to issue a pamphlet, stating the most suitable trees for growing in the Wairarapa district.
