JOCKEYS' DISPUTE
SUPPORT FROM TRADES COUNCIL.
Representations made by members of the Jockeys' Association to the Wellington Trades and, Labour Council have met with support. . Stress was laid on the inadequate provision for treating injured jockeys on the racecourse,,. The Jockeys' Association had written, to the Minister of Internal Affaire asking that am.bulances and the necessary surgical aid should be provided on racecourses, but the association had been referred to the Racing Conference. The Chairman of the conference had been written to several times on,the matter, but so far no reply had been received. Several instances \v?ere reported where jockeys who had been injured were left to lie "in the cold without receiving proper surgical assistance. It was also pointed out that the rules of racing for each year were determined'by a conference of the various clubs without any reference- being made to the jockeys. The representations of the Jockeys' Association were considered at a meeting of the Trades and Labour Council held last night. The council considered that the conditions under which the jockeys laboured called for immediate redress, and the following motion was carried: "That this council accords its hearty support to the Jockeys' Affiocirt' tion in endeavouring to get ;i modicum of fair p_l»^ for their jaeinbew,"
