AMERICANS WANT PEACE

SENATOR UNDERWOOD'S STATEMENT

CONCILIATION COMMITTEE

SUGGESTED,

(UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN - HEW ZEALAND CABLB ASSOCIATION.) NEW YORK, 16th December. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times states that ' Senator Underwood says that if" necessary the League of Nations should be made a side-issue in the 19J0 Presidential campaign, but the Treaty should be ratified now, with or without the League. The people demand peace, and the Senate should appoint a committee of conciliation in order to effect a compromise. President Wilson's announcement that he will not further a compromise does not mean that he desires to prohibit the Democrats from negotiating a compromise.
