WELLINGTON SUBURBS

MR. WRIGHT AGAIN RETURNED. R. A. Wright (R.) ... 4280 A. W. Cruskery (Lab.) 3033 D. Sloane (L.) 2148 Majority for Wright... 1247 The electors of Wellington Suburbs camiot be said to have lacked interest in the election, for they rolled up in force at every polling place throughout the electorate, and at several of„ the booths, notably at Maranui, the polling 80 far exceeded expectations that the stock of voting papers ran dangerously low, and additional papers had to be secured, though no booth was at any time actually without voting papers. ■ A glance at the figures below will show that Berhampore, Brooklyn, and Ngahauranga polled heavily for the Labour candidate, Mr. A. W. Croskery, and Johnsonville for ,the Liberal candidate, Mr. Dunbar Sloane, but even early in the evening, when the first batches of results came through, there was little doubt as to the result of the contest, for Mr. R. A. Wright (Reform) had gained a great advantage, which was increased by leaps and bounds'until the final results were 'phoned to the central booth at the Masonic Hall, Berhampore, at 9.45 p.m., when his lea-d from Mr. Croskery was 1247 votes, and from the Liberal candidate 2134 votes.
