HUTT SEAT

MR. WILFORD'S CAMPAIGN

Mr. T. M. Wilford addressed one of the largest political meetings ever held in the Hutt last evening and received a most enthusiastic reception. Mr. A. Macaskill presided. Mr. Wilford at the outeet dealt with the published statements appearing in the Nation and also the Rev.., Knowles Smith's advertisement. ,v* Mr. Wilford read a letter from Mr. Jordan, Under-Secretary of Justice, showing that Mr. Wilford was not even a Minister at the time the removal of religion from the charge-sheets was ordered, and therefore he had nothing whatever to do with the matter. The Under-Secretary for Justice also stated that Mr. Wilford had nothing to do with the statistics in the Year Book in their removal. That was the province of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mi. Wilford dealt at length with the aims of the Reform Party, and held that no proper form of taxation would be attempted by the Massey Government because it would hit the big man. Mr. Barlow moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Wilford and a pledge of support. This was carried unanimously. Three hearty cheers were given for Mr. Wilford.
