Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police and maintenance cases at the Magistrate's Court yesterday James Kelly was fined £2, the amount of his bail, for having obstructed Constable Hollis in the execution of his duty. The constable was arresting a woman for drunkenness, when -Kelly interfered, and gave so much cause for annoyance that it was necessary to arrest him, but later, as he was a member of the crew of a steamer which sailed yesterday, Kelly was allowed bail.

James Henry Burns, who had disregarded the provisions of a maintenance order made against him, was given the alternative of paying off the arrears, a matter of £12, at the rate of 5a per week, at the same time keeping up the current payments under the order, or going to gaol for a month. Edwin George Eden was ordered to contribute a sum of £1 15s per week towards the support of his family, and also to pay £25 past maintenance. The Magistrate also ordered that Eden should enter into a bond of £50 as a seimrity that the- orders will be complied with. Before Mr. R, D. Hanlon, J.P., at the Mount Cook-Police Court this morning. James Robertson was fined 20s, indefault three days in gaol, for drunkenness.' Joseph Bonnington was fined 10s, or forty-eight-hours, and another offender was convicted and discharged also for drunkenness.
