RIFLE SHOOTING

T.HE KING'S PRIZE.

The winning of the King's Prize at the Bisley Victory Meeting by a New Zealander has created much interest amongst local rifle shots as to the conditions under which the prize was shot for, the old conditions (which included long-range shooting}, having been altered. Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.6., chief executive officer D.R.A., is now in a position to supply us with the information as follows :—His Majesty the King's Prize was fired for at Bisley on the 15th, 16th, and 17th July, open to all past and present members of His Majesty's Forces. The aggregate prize money, £1080, was divided into 350 prizes, the first prize' being His Majesty the King's of £250, the N.R.A. gold medal and gold badge. Shot for in three stages: First stage, 10 shots at 200 and 500 yards; second stage, 10 shots at 200, 500, and 600 yards {only the, first 300 competitors in the first stage competing).; third stage, 10 shots at 300, 500, and 600 yards (only the first 100 competitors in the second stage to shoot). Shot for with tho British S.M.L.E. rifle, service rifle issued by or purchased from the Government, and used with open sights as issued. Slings not to be used. 'Only the scores made in the second and third stages count for the prize. -At the finish of tho 300 yards in the third stage Loveday was 168; at.500 yards he made ■41; and at 600 yards a brilliant score of 44; making a grand total of 253. At the recent D.R.A. Meeting held at Trontham the service rifle, 1914, issued by the Defence Department, was used, and the same rule applied to sights, but slings were permitted to be used in championship series, which included the King's Prize match for New Zealand.
