LOWER HUTT SITTING.
The monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court was held to-day -Jiefore Mr. E. Page, S.M. . W. Askwith was charged with using obscene language, wilfully damaging a bicycle, and breaking his prohibition order. Accused, who is separated from his wife, was 'alleged to have, while in, a drunken condition, damaged her bicycle and used the language complained of. On the first charge he was fined £3, on the second ordered to make good the damago, amounting to 15s, and on the third charge was'fined £1 tfith 14s costs.
For driving motor-cars on the wrong side of the road on a race day T. Hubbard, Thomaa Omerod, and B. Williams were each fined 40s, with 7s costs. Similar fines were imposed in the cases of Charles Hart, and W. F. M'Gowan for failing to have lights on their motorcars.
The following motorists, who had no bail-lights on their cars, were each fined 10s, with 7s costs :—George Baker, Alf. Barnes, P. Farley, and G. A. Waddell.
Tho use of dazzling headlights was responsible for A. E. Brown, F. Evertoh, and A. J. Ferguson being each fined 10s, with 7s costs.
For allowing stock to wander, Mrs. W. Dagstrom, G. G. Martin, andl W. Strand were each fined 10s, with 7s costs, J. Bradley, 40s, with 7s costs, P. _J. 'Bell, costs only (7s), and Jlrs. Childs, convicted and discharged.
Judgment for plaintiff by- default was given in the following undefended: civil cases:—P. Greenfield v. G. H. Hunt, £2 2s 9d, costs 10s; Lower Hutt Borough Council v. A. M. Baggs, £4 2s 6d, costs ss; James Skeunington v. William Kepa^ £5 5s 6d, costs 15s. L. G. Balls (G. G. Watson) claimed! from John Gordon (R. C. Kirk) the sum of £40. The claim arose out of an accident at Taita on 22nd April. Plaintiff was riding a horse past defendant's property, when it is alleged to have shied at some milk cans on the roadside, collided violently with a motor-car, and had to be destroyed. Plaintiff claimed' £20, the value of the horse, and £20 general damagos, on account of the alleged negligence of defendant in leaving tbe cans on the roadside.
