A battery of howitzers opened with deady effect. Infantry and machine-guns "deployed, and soon tlie enemy forces were in full retreat, with our aeroplanes bombing them. The enemy suffered heavy casualties. LONDON, 6th June. In response- to the Viceroy's personal •letters, all the_ native princes have replied, expressing unswerving loyalty, and offering personal service and troops against the Afghans. (Eeceived June\9, 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 29. Owing to the Afghan situation Indian demobilisation of Indian troops has been suspended. Proofs have reached London that 801--sheviks at Moscow continue to v incite the Amir. British concentration are proceding at Peshawar, Dakka, and Quotta, The main Afghan force lies between Dakka and Jelallabad.
