Mr. William Peavn, a well-known Taranaki settler, whoso death occurred recently, was born in Cornwall, and came to New Zealand by the William Bryan, the pioneer ship of tho Plymouth Company of New Zealand, landing with his parents at Moturoa on 31st March, 1841. He took part in the Maori troubles of 1860-66, and was a -member of Major Atkinson's company of Bushrangers. He was in the actions at Waireka ' and Mahoetahi. The late Mr. Pearn leaves a widow (a daughter of another early settler, the late Mr. Thomas Heale, who came out in the Oriental in 1841) and a family of ten— tsvo enus and oieht daughters.
