THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

The ■ new hall of the Wellington Theosophical Society was packed last night to hear the Convention Lecture delivered by the general secretary, Mr. J R. Thomson "The Birth, of a New. Civilisation" was the subject. The present civilisation, Mr. Thomson said, had been of a. mean and low orde*r, bu'i''h'act' served its purpose in developing the seed of individuality in the race. It had culminated in the distortion of the glorious ideal set by the Christ.' The strength of individualism had run to seed in the doctrine of "might is right," as witness the present German nation In the new civilisation now superseding the old, individuality would be dedicated to the race The life of the race depended on the complete recognition of all. its .parts. The just care, of the nation must be its workers (ite organs of locomotion). Those in turn must recognise and,, co-operate with, the head, the brains of the national organisation. Class distinction must give way to mutual co-operation and interdependence. Th% fire of idealism must quicken all into the service of all. The great danger in the transition stage lay in the reformer. Balanced judgment, not the reactionary methods of the Bolshevik, must be shown if life and order were to be maintained. The glory of our Empire was only ;just beginning. Its success depended on the recognition of the one Divine life ensouled in every human heart 1, and ite natural corollary, the brotherhood of man.
