MAKURA SEAMAN DIES
i. (BY TELHGBAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. ' Denis -M'Cleod, aged 35, a seaman who was removed from the! Makura on Tuesday, died, at Quarantine Island last night.
The Wellington Central Health Committee expresses its deep appreciation of the sterling work during the campaign of Nurse Everitt, who took charge of about thirty patients at the Hotel Bristol, and gradually nursed them back to convalescence.
The Wadestown Vigilance Committee has received further, donations as follow :—A. D. Riley, £3 3s; Mr. and Mre. Walls, £5; E. C. Rowe, £1 Is; Mrs. Archer, £1; A. J. George, £5; R. Jackson Fowler, £1 Is; M. Roberts, ss; Mrs. Lowe, £1 Is; Mrs. Kayward, £1; Mrs. Bright, £5; Ge#. Taylor, £1; S. G. Nathan, £5; R. A. Wright, M.P., £3 35., making a total to date of £69 14s 9d.
To obtain funds to aid the sufferers by the epidemic, a sale of Christmas gifts and toys will be held at Dr. Adams's grounds, 96, The Terrace, on next Friday afternoon. If the weather is wet, the sale will be held in St. Andrew's schoolroom. Lady Liverpool has consented to open the function. *" Wellington North acknowledges the following donations: — Miss Tompsett 10s, Mrs. Barker £2 2s, Mrs. Geisen, sen., £2 2s, Mrs. James Holmes £5, Rowley and Gill £5 ss, C. R. Robieson £3 3s, Grateful £2 10s, James Holmes £10, Mrs. Pavitt £1, Mrs. Kyle £1. The final meeting of all workers is called for to-night, and will be held in St. Andrw's Schoolroom at 8 o'clock. All who have helped in any way are invited to be present.
