LONDON, 28th September.

An American communique states: The First Army continued to attack north-west of Verdun and took Ch&rpentry, Very, Epinonville, and Ivoiry. Repeated hostile counter-attacks were thrown back. We captured over a hundred gtms, of which twelve were heavies, many trench mortars, and hundreds of machine-guns. Our prisoners now are over eight thousand, including, 125 officers.
