ARRESTS MADE.

(BI T«LE<JRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) j AUCKLAND, This Day. The arrest of two armed men believed to have been connected with numerous burglaries in the city and suburbs during the last four weeks was effected at a house in Wellesley-street early yesterday morning by Detectiv« Cummings and Plain-Clothes Constable M'Hugh. Both men are young, have been resident in Auckland for some time, and one of them, James Daven, was a regular boarder at the house; the other, John M'Lelland, had only slept there on Saturday night. The officers, having made sure of their ground, entered the bedroom where the men were sleeping, and overpowered and handcuffed them befo» they had a chance to offer resistance. • A search revealed a loaded revolver under Daven's pillow and several plugs of gelignite under his bed, and there was a loaded revolver lying on tho pillow alongside M'Lelland's head. A further quantity of gelignite was found under M'Lelland's mattress. Several rounds of ammunition fpr each of the revolvers were also discovered. The men were taken to the Police Station, and formally charged.' • Another young man, Charles M'Corinack, believed to be implicated in breaking and entering in Queen-street, was arrested about midnight near his home, Grey Lynn. The police were making enquiries, at the man's home when they heard him approaching, and were'able to secure him without much trouble.
