PROMOTIONS FOR NEW ZEALAND- • ERS. (FtSOSI OUE OWK CORKBSrONDCKT.) LONDON, 28th May. ' Thsi-e is every reason to believe that quite a number of New Zealanders serving in the R.N.R. awl R.N.V.R. took pu,rt in the very successful and important naval raids off Zecbrnsge and- Osteml. ■As an outcome of these risky a-dven-tvires, lists of promotions in recognition of valuable services are now being announced. To-day's list, for inttor.ice, contains at least two names of special New Zealand interest:—Engineer-Sub. -Lieutenant Edgar V. Meilde. •R-.N., has been promoted Engineer-Lieutenant. Former-, ly in tho New Zealand Rifle Brigade, sth Reinforcements, Lieutenant Meikle transferred to the navy at the beginning of last year, and is now in H.M.B. . Sub.-Lieu tenant Thomas Turnbull, R.N.V.R., now promoted Lieutenant, belongs to Wellington. He arrived early in .1917, and for some little time hiiS been on tho Dover station. His brother, also Lieutenant, R.N.V.R., is now at an Italian naval base. C.M.M. B. V. Smith (Duiwdin)' 1 also participated in both engagements.
