TRAMWAYS MILITARY BAND.

Despite the bad weather, there was a full house at His Majesty's Theatre last night, when the Wellington' Municipal Tramways Military Band gave another recital. The performance was excellent, the vocal and instrumental items being all that could be desired. Three mem■bers of the English Pierrots—Misses Elsie Eosslyn and Kima Young, and Mr. Roy Cooke—had cordial receptions, all being recalled. Miss Rosslyn's sweet _ soprano voice was heard to advantage in "Aye Maria," and later, with Mr. Cooke, in the popular duet, "Somewhere a Voice.is Calling." Mr Cooke's solo, "Floral Dance,'' was a gem, his bass voice being congenially suited to the tuneful bars of the song. Miss Young made an efficient •pianiste, and also played Godard's lilting "Mazurka" with expression,, and technique. The band opened -with a spirited rendering of "The Marseillaise," followed ■by the Spanish march "Cadiz." The intermezzo, "Chanson Bohemienne," was in lighter vein, and again in good contrast was Verdi's magnificent "Aida" fantasia. From the triumphal march, with its boast and blatancy, to the powerful battle representation, the selection was an excellent tribute to the insight and musical knoweldge of the bandsmen. Tho ever^popular "Maritana" was played with brilliance and dash. The cornet solo, "In Sympathy," by Mr. Elliott, was a popular item. Mr. Moschini conducted with judgment and intelligence.
