RUGBY UNION
!A! meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last evening in the V.M.C.A. buildings. Mr. D. D. Weir was in the chair.
The position of players who have taken part in League football games was brought up. Two League men, who had played for Solwyn on a recent Saturday, were asked: to appear before the union, but only one, who admitted having- been a League player, attended. It was decided that the match between Selwyn and Railways be awarded to the latter. It was further decided that a circular letter bo forwarded to tho various clubs, advising them to make certain that no League players took part in their matches. The clubs are also to be advised that the union is determined to put down malpractices on the field. It was agreed to disqualify a. member of the Athletic team for four weeks for striking a member of the Poneke team. For objectionable benavkrar during a match between Hutt and Petone, a member of the latter team -was disqualified 1 until tho end of the 1918 season.
In view of a complaint received from the Oriental Cluo", that in their match with Petone a League player inadvertently refereed, it was decided that the match, should be replayedl. An application -was received from the Trentham Football Club for a grant from the proceeds of the representative match on the King's Birthday, but it was decided to take no action.
Messrs. Griffiths, Donovan, and Millard- were appointed selectors for the 1918 season.
