OLD LADY KILLED
Daughter seriously injured

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
An accident occurred at the Styx jrailway crossing on the main north road this morning, a motor car containing five persons colliding with the north-bound train. Tho driver of the car, James Afhworth, aged 73, a farmer at Saltwater Creek, escaped with a few scratches, and his three adult daughters all received cuts and bruises. Mrs. Ashworth, aged 74, received most serious injuries, her right arm being nearly torn off. Later. Mrs. Ashworth and her three daughters were taken to the Christchurch Hospital and Mrs. Ashworth died soon after her arrival. One daughter, May, was.suffering from severe injuries to one of her legs. An operation was found to be necessary. Elizabeth, another daughter, received injuries to her chest, and Jane, the thii^d daughter, suffered injuries to her arm. They are progressing favourably.
