"r.E.D."—The whole question of pay and separation allowances to men on Home service is now undsr consideration. "Soldier's Wife and Mother."—The 'official reply is that Home service employment is voluntary, while foreign service is now compulsory, and involves much greater sacrifices. . "Temporary Staff."—Members of the New Zealand Permanent Staff serve under a fixed engagement, and consequently are not reduced in rank on joining the' N.Z.E.F. with temporary stall men employed for the period of the -war in New Zealand, their rank is not 'permanent and on joining the N.Z.KF. they are' liable to be reduced in rank the same as other people.
