BALLOT CORRECTIONS
In a letter which he has sent/ to the Government Statistician, Mr; J. W. A. Marchant, of Tiriakori-road, says: "My son, L. 1 A. Marchant, of 121 a, Tinakoriroad, Wellington, whose came appears in the Gazette,as called up, was one of the first to volunteer for active service. He joined the Samoan Advance Force on Bth August, 1914, and served with that body till ite return and stupid disbandment-by Government. After recuperating Eis health he left New Zealand for Engalnd on 29th May, 1915.. On reaching Home he was at once 'given a commission in the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He was in the forefront of the advance of the Irish Brigades on the .. Somme, and was desperately wounded on ■ 6th ' September, 1916. He had only partly recovered in August last, but was at that time musketry instructor to a battalion of the Rova! Irish Riflee."* Mr. Marchant added that no notices reached him until to-day, and no enquiries had been-made hitherto. He- also stated that the Base Records, Wellington, have a file relating to his son and we services.
The ..Government Statistician advises that Robert J. C. Seal, 90, . Taranakistreet, whose name appears in the ballot, has been found to be identical with Robert Scale who went, away with the Main Body and was returned to New Zealand and diecharged as unfit. Hie. name, therefore, should riot have appeared in the ballot. ■
' Mr. G. E. Corkill advises that Harold K. Corkill, called up by to-day's Gazette, was 20 on the 21st iilt.', and left New Zealand before he was 19. He is now in the Imperial Field Artillery a 2nd Lt.
