MONKEYS POISONED
It was reported at the last meeting of the Reserves Committee of the City Council that two valuable monkeys had died at the Newtown Zoo. Post mortem examination indicated that the cause of death was ptomaine poisoning. The food with which the monkeys had been supplied was of the usual nature, and' other animals had suffered no ill. effects from eating it. The inference therefore was that the poisoning was due to some food given to the animals by members of the public. The committee believed tl\at,the food given by the public to the animalsis given with the best of intentions, but' in these two cases it has proved "disastrous. It was therefore decided to appeal to the public to give the animals nothing which was at all likely to have an injurious effect.' It is not desired to prohibit the feeding of animals alto: gether, though this may be preferable, but it is hoped that the greatest care will bo exercised in the class, and quality of food given. : •
