NEXT WHEAT CROP
GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. The Minister oE Agriculture, Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, after conferring with representatives of the wheat farmors of the South Island, has arranged the-con-ditions on which the Government will take over the wheat crop of the coming season. The main feature of the agreement is that of purchase by the Government; at 5s lOd per bushel. The details of the scheme in relation to the 1917-18 crop, which have been adopted, are as follow :—
(1) The Government to be the sole purchaser of the crop. (2) The farmers will get the guaranteed price of 5s lOd per bushel f.ob. with j slight increments (as under last ye.ar s scheme) for deliveries after A.v>ril (3) The millers will be allowed' to dui-1 i chase only through Government agents after they had been allotted their fair quota of the crop. (4) A small joint Committee of Advice wil] be appointed to assist in administering the scheme, consisting of representatives of millers, farmers, grain morchants, and brokers. <5) A Controller will be appointed who will work in conjunction with tho committee so -appointed. (6) Disputes which might arise be- | tween growers, brokers, or millers will! be decided by the Government Grader <7) A differential Pl^ for wb<«* for North Island growers will be fixed' the difference to go to the grower. (8) The price of sacks will be definitely fixed ; also the price of seed and fowl wheat.
