ATTACK REPULSED ON VERDUN FRONT
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION AND REUTER.) LONDON, 17th September. A French official communique states : There is considerable artillery activity in the region oE Braye and Ceray. A fresh German attack on the right bank of the Meuse north of Caurieres Wood was repulsed. On the left bank there is" lively artillery activity in the neighbourhood of MortHomme. GERMAN ATTACK IN APREMONT FOREST (Received September 18, 10.35 a.m.) s , LONDON, 17th September.' A French communique states : After a violent bombardment, the Germans attacked out positions in the Apremont Forest. Fractions which gained a footing in our advanced elements were driven out, and our line w,as re-established.
