METHODIST CHURCH MILITARY COMMITTEE
The Rev. E. Drake presided over th« monthly meeting of the Military Committee of the Methodist Church, held in the Young Men's Bible Class Room, Taranaki-street. There were present also the Revs. D J. Murray, A. M'Bean, and A. Reader (secretary), Chaplain Rands, and Messrs. W. M. Bennett and J. P. Shand. Letters were received from Chaplains F. T. Reed and A. G. Seamer. The former is going on a hospital ship as representative of several combined churches, and the latter is now at the front. The important work of the chaplains among the sick and wounded was emphasised by Chaplain Seamer. During the last six weeks the Bum of £200 had been remitted by' the committee to the Senior Chaplain in England for distribution among the chaplains of the church for work among the New Zealand boys. The committee realises the increasing demands for assistance, and is anxious that all who are desirous of helping the chaplains in . this connection should send their contributions direst through the committee. Several accounts in connection with the Trentham Institute were passed for payment. Chaplain Rands submitted several proposals for improvements needed at the institutej and some were authorised to be immediately carried out, while others were deferred. The chairman, secretaxy, treasurer, and Mr. W. Bennett, were appointed a committee to visit the institute, and report to -tlje next committee meeting. The treasurer, Mr. C. M. Luke, who was absent through ill-health, forwarded a statement of the moneys in hand, amounting to £157 17s 2d. A small balance is expected to remain after paving the balance of the amount due for the building of the Tauherenikau United Institute.
