MILITARY CONTRACTS
"SHODDY" IN SOLDIERS' UNIFORMS.
"Whether the firm known as A. Levy and Company, who were fined recently for putting shoddy material _ into soldiers' uniforms, are now receiving Government contracts for clothing?" This was a question asked by Mr. J. Vigor Brown in the House of Representatives a day or two ago; -In -a-note to his question Mr. Brown stated:—"Levy"and Co. have been penalised for putting rubbish into soldiers' uniforms, and have replaced the brass plate announcing that they are Army Supply Stores; which had been removed after they had been fined, thereby suggesting that they are again doing work for the Government." I The Hon. Mr. Myers (Minister' of Munitions and Supplies) has replied: "As a result of legal action resulting in the firm mentioned by the honourable member being heavily fined, the name was struck off the register of suppliers for my Department, consequently it is not a contractor for New Zealand Military Supplies; but lam giv«n to understand that some of the firm's contracts with another Government Department which were entered into prior to 1916 have been extended."
