NEW ZEALAND FISHERIES.
One department in his charge in which the Hon. G. W. Russell has taken the keenest of interest is that of the fishing industry. Last night, in Parliament, ha said that while oh a recent visit to the Thames he had been surprised at the .quantity of fish available in the Hauraki Gulf. The gulf was one of the best fishing grounds in New Zealand. He added that he hoped to see fishing settlements all around tKe coast of New Zealand. Such settlements would mean a supply of men when New Zealand adopted a forward navy policy. • < Mr. Wilford said that Professor Prince's report was a most childish one, especially aa far as trout fishing at Rotorua and Taupo was concerned. "He was just as competent to report on trout fishing as I am competent to report on. fishing in the Eraser River," said Mr. Wilford.
