FRESH CRISIS IN GERMANY
CHANCELLOR'S POSITION THREATENED""
ACCUSED PLAYING A DOUBLE GAME
(Received August 25, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, 24th August.
The Daily Telegraph's correspondent at Rotterdam. says that a, fresh political crisis in Germany threatens Dr. Michaelis's position. The Majority Party,, which passed the peace resolution in July, disputes the Chancellor's interpretation of the resolutions, and the Social Democrats denounce him a-s an adherent of the annexationists. Tlu fact is that Dr. Michaelis is playing a double game. He now explains that the Reichstag's peace formula is ambiguous, and that he never absolutely adopted it The Reichstag Majority Party is furious. Members of the party conferred ■with Dr. Michaelis on Wednesday night in secret, but the newspapers^ next morning significantly warned him that he had better change his attitud*. Some plainly tell Michaelis.that the Reichstag was tricked. In any case, war between the Chancellor and the Reichstag Majority seems inevitable. ■ • ■■ ■ ■ . ."..•': .>.... - ....- ■ . ,
