. A Christchurch merchant yesterday forwarded a cable message to a leading Sydney merchant, enquiring how the strike was progressing, and if martial law was in . force. The following reply was received : "Ordinary conditions prevailing."
Another Christchurch importer sent a similar message, and the following reply is to hand: "Statement incorrect. No martial law." ,^
