RUMANIAN ARMY

FIGHTING ITS BLOODIEST BATTLE

ENEMY'S STRONGEST EFFORTS

WITHSTOOD

(rUBLISHEB IN THE TIMES.)

LONDON, 17th August. The Times correspondent at Jassy reports : "The bloodiest battle the Rumanian Army has ever fought 'has reached its tenth day. On one hundred miles of front fluctuations are inevitable. The battle has already proved that the Rumanians are capable of resisting the enemy's most frantic efforts. Yon Mackensen has been compelled continually to bring up reinforcements. The Rumanian situation has now been reestablished. At-Oituz, the Rumanians, after squashing the enemy's massed formations, counter-attacked, causing terrific losses. This is a typical episode of the fighting."
