"OUR DAY" AT LOWER HUTT
There was a large and representative gathering last evening' in the Counci Chambers,. Lower Hutt, in, response ,\i the invitation of the Mayor (Mr. HI Baldwin), to form, a committee to wc-rlj. in conjunction with" the Hutt .Ladies. Patriotic Guild for the collection o funds for the Red Cross. "Our Day effort. Mr. C. K. Levein was appointee secretary to the meeting. The Chairman outlined the purpose o the gathering and the . gAat _need ■ foi funds. Those present formed themselves into a committee to. assist. Sub-corn mitte'es as follow were appointed:—Cir eular committee, Messrs. Levein, Bar low, Bock, • West, M'Bain; canvassmf committee, Messrs. Burns, Strand,, aift Meldiram; entertainment committee Rev. ,A. L. Hansell and,, Messrs. Slinn Mason, i Dorant, and, Clendon. , . Circulars are to be issued to eacl hpuseholder, in the district, and a house to-house ,canvass made. . Suggestions foi the entertainment committee ■ were ; th< holding of a mock court, a school.child ren'.s concert, and, a fire, brigade concept :. Mr. Maeon, , on .behalf of the Bq; Scouts promised to deliver the. circula-rsj. At the close, of the general meeting the sub-committees met and made all tlie, preliminary arrangements . for wha' promises to be a successful, effort.
