LOWER HUTT
The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, when the following -were present:—The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin), mid Councillors A. Hobbs, W. Kerr, W. Cotton, S. Clendon, J. Brasell, A. Carver, W. Meldrum.

was resolved to accept the dedication; provided itlie Mayor and engineer are satisfied with the conditions imposed. Messrs. M'Donald, Kingdon, and five others- asked that the" foot-path in Still-ing-street be asphalted, and that the water-service pipes be laid to the boundaries of residents' properties, to avoid disturbing footpath at a later ■ date. —It was agreed to gravel the footpath at once
An application for an, extension of the gas main in Pharazyn-street was referred to the Gas Committee for a report. Mr. J. T. Hawthorn wrote stating that he could not accept the council's offer of £150 a year for a five years' lease for the use of the present offices. He was prepared to grant a seven years' lease at a rental of £162 a year.—The Mayor moved that consideration of ithe leitter be held over until next meeting, and in the meantime steps be 'taken to j see if the council could not find some other building ibhat could be used for the borough offices. This was agreed to. j A letter was received, signed _by. several residents of Normandale, asking that attention be given to the road, as they considered it -unsafe for vehicle and pedestrian traffic, owing to big nits, and the drains being too small to cany away the water.—This was referred to the engineer for a report. ENGINEER'S DEPARTMENT. The- Engineer (Mr. W. J. Roche) reported that he had carried out certain adjustments to the western septic tank. The trees donated by the local bowling club had been planted in Fraser=street, with protective rails and wire netting round them. Minor damage had been done by tie recent storm, and the work of repairing slips and fences had cost £19 lls lid for labour. Several owners whose properties adjoin Knights-road had been notified to have drains put in to abate the nuisance of storm water flowing over the footpath. The new 3in water main had been laid in Stillingetreet, and connected with the main in Western Hutt-road. This main had been provided with a valve at the Western Hutt end and four hydrants at-about 250 ft apart. Routine work was also reported upon by the Engineer.
