MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. S. E. M'Oarthy, S.M., occupied the Bench at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Several previous convictions for drunkenness were admitted by Timothy Donovan, who was sent to gaol for one month, and ordered to pay 17s 6d medical expenses, or serve a further term of seven days. The terms were ordered to be cumulative. Henry Greenfield, who had been convicted three times previously during the past six months, waa sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. In the case of Aksell Williamson, the fine was fixed at 20s, the alternative being forty-eight hours in gaol. A first offender, who failed to appear, had his bail (20s) estreated. , A plea of guilty was entered by George Browse, who was charged with committing an indecent act. in Vivianstreet. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. On a charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. An elderly man named Edward Valentine Westerby was found guilty of assaulting William Henry Whileley, and was fined 40s, with the alternative of serving fourteen days in gaol.
